 Energy Efficiency in Buildings
New York, NY: End of April (TBA) - The German American Chambers of Commerce are pleased to announce the 1st German American Energy Efficiency Conference in New York City at the end of April 2009. The meeting will include a range of professional, academic, and government speakers from both the U.S. and Germany who are experts in the field.
The energy balance in the U.S. is getting cleaner, with 7% of energy produced already coming from renewable sources. With the growing interest in environmental responsibility, though, using energy efficiently has become just as important as where the power comes from. Everything from using the correct building materials to a well-designed electrical system can mean savings of precious energy resources and increase in profit through lower energy costs. A recent report in Time Magazine has suggested that even with current technology, it is possible to cut oil and gas consumption in half and electricity use by three quarters. In New York City, two thirds of energy used goes into buildings, providing great opportunities for savings. Many companies already offer the materials, service, and consulting needed.
While the market for efficiency improvements is growing in the U.S., many German companies are already renowned for their contributions to the field. We look forward to helping establish valuable relationships between German and American energy efficiency companies at the conference.
Sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology under the direction of the German Parliament. Attendance for the event will be for free, but due to limited space and security, registration is required and now open.

 Bioenergy: Power, Heat, and Fuels
Syracuse, NY: June 23, 2009 - The German American Chambers of Commerce are proud to announce the “5th German American Renewable Energy Conference - Bioenergy: Power, Heat, and Fuels,” to be held on June 23, 2009 at National Grid in Syracuse, New York. Following overwhelming success at last year’s event, we will be hosting a range of speakers, including professionals, technicians, scientists, and government representatives from both the U.S. and Germany, to further discussion in this important field.
In just the last few years, renewable energy in the U.S. has come from being a fringe topic to one of the most important environmental and economic issues of our time. Now renewables account for seven percent of the U.S. energy production. Throughout this progression, the potential in the industry has soared but with it, the amount of knowledge required to succeed. Bioenergy has emerged as one sector presenting vast opportunity. The technology, infrastructure, and government support are all constantly improving. Biomass already accounts for 55 billion kilowatthours of electricity in the U.S., and projections suggest that will rise to 76 billion by 2020. At the same time, many German biomass companies have the necessary expertise and interest in entering the U.S. market. We plan to continue to encourage valuable connections between German and American companies in the industry.
Syracuse, NY, home to this year’s conference, has quickly become a leader in biomass in the Northeast and further plans to expand its role in other renewable energy fields. At this meeting, we look forward to building on last year’s impressive audience of 250 attendees and facilitate break-out meetings between German and American biomass companies.
Sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology under the direction of the German Parliament. Attendance will be for free, but due to limited space and security, registration is required and now open.

 Orlando, FL - October 2008
The 2nd Germany Florida Solar Energy Conference in Orlando, FL on October 20, 2008 was organized by the GACC South, Texas office. It was an all-day event with thirteen presentations, a panel discussion and pre-scheduled meetings. The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern United States, in conjunction with the German Solar Energy Industries Association, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the Florida Solar Energy Industries Association (FlaSEIA) as well as Enterprise Florida held a one-day conference on solar energy, followed by a three-day tour of companies around Florida.
At the conference, keynote speakers presented cutting-edge technologies from Germany and the US. Eight German solar energy companies were in attendance with the intention to establish business relationships with Florida’s solar companies. The conference was scheduled in response to recent regulation changes, such as profitable rebates, that are expected to stir interest in consumers. The GACC South invited manufacturers, retailers and contractors involved in solar thermal systems to register for the event. The potential relationships with the German solar energy manufacturers will enable Florida’s companies to more effectively cater to the state’s increasing solar industry demands. The conference was held at the Embassy Suites Orlando Downtown in Orlando, FL.
With over 100 participants, the 2nd German Florida Solar Energy Conference was a success. Speakers from Germany and the US spoke on the current status of solar technology and the political framework as well as future developments. A new feature of the conference was a panel discussion about feed-in tariffs for solar-generated electricity in the USA, specifically in Florida. Particularly appealing was the decision by the City of Gainesville in Florida to introduce feed-in tariffs beginning in 2009. A lively discussion followed that touched on the utility of feed-in tariffs and why Florida still has not introduced a statewide feed-in tariff.
