ear Members & Friends of
the GermanAmerican
Chambers of Commerce,
As 2014 is coming to an end, we can
look back upon a thoroughly
successful year for the U.S. economy.
Unemployment is at a 14-year low,
while the U.S. economy has added
jobs for 55 consecutivemonths. The
budget deficit has fallen significantly
and interest rates are at a constant
low level. German companies have
been profiting from this friendly
business climate. Recently, compa-
nies such as Siemens, SAP, Bayer,
and Infineon have been spending
more than $65 billion on acquisi-
tions of American firms. In addition,
of all the American companies
receiving foreign bids this year, a
fifthwere fromGerman buyers, and
of all the cross-border takeovers
worldwide led by German firms, 60%
were for American firms.
In addition to the good economic
news, the GermanAmerican Cham-
ber of CommerceWest, located in
San Francisco, has reason to cel-
ebrate. On October 21st, members of
the GermanAmerican Chamber of
Commerce NewYork and other
representatives of the BayArea
business community gathered to
celebrate its 10 year anniversary. For
ten years the GACCWest has served
as a facilitator for transatlantic trade
on theWest Coast and as themost
important point of contact for
German companies invested in this
region. The western states play a
vital role for the U.S. economy,
significantly contributing to the
national GDP. California and the San
Francisco BayArea in specific are
nationwide leaders in sectors like
high technology, renewable energy,
and venture capital.
Therefore, the GACCNewYork’s
decision to open a branch office in
San Francisco a decade agowas an
important step in accessing untapped
business potential and enhancing
transatlantic ties.
Sincerely,
Caroll H. Neubauer,
Chairman of the GermanAmerican
Chamber of Commerce, NewYork
