A Mentor is the key person to ensure first-class apprenticeships. A Mentor has to be professionally trained and must have full knowledge and understanding of the training content in order to successfully impart the content to apprentices while maintaining them motivated to pursue a specific profession.

The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern US, Inc. (GACC South) is offering the Train the Mentor training to certify “AdA International Trainers”, which is the highest International Certification for Apprenticeship Mentors accredited by the German Foreign Chambers of Commerce (AHKs) and the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs). Currently, 18 AHKs in Europe, America, and Asia are already certifying company Mentors according to the German model with the concept of “AdA International Trainers”.

The purpose of this training is to provide the highest level of training for Mentors, so that they have all the theoretical know-how and the practical knowledge needed to ensure that companies or colleges are training young professionals successfully and building a professionally skilled and motivated workforce for the future, under internationally recognized standards.

Dr. Daniel Büttner will come to Atlanta to conduct the first Module of our Mentor training. Dr. Büttner is a leading partner of the Curriculum and Exam Development Board for the Train the Mentor training in Germany as well as a Senior Examiner.

The content of the course is based on real-life working conditions and encompasses four fields of activity:

1. Checking training requirements and planning the training
2. Preparing the training and participating in the hiring of apprentices
3. Performing the training
4. Concluding the training

Training Breakdown:

• Module 1: understanding the German Apprenticeship System and the Mentor role (6 days fulltime)
• Module 2: law and exam preparation (2 days fulltime) - dates to be determined by mid-January
